GEORGE FREDERICK CLARKE
to be Doctor of Laws
A distinguished resident of his native Province, he has found a life-long interest in literature and archeology. Descended on both sides of his family from United Empire Loyalists, it was natural that the history of the region in which he lives and in which his forbears had played a part, should have coloured and added a dimension to his writings, in both his formal historical works and his short stories and novels.
He determined to become a writer at the age of nine, and as he himself says "has been learning ever since".
A generation of youthful readers will look back with pleasure to their vicarious part in the adventures of David Cameron on two continents, including the Indian village of Medoctec on the Saint John River. Dr. Clarke knows the Indians well and has crowned his career as a writer and an amateur archeologist with "Someone Before Us", which includes his findings of the Stone Age.
We cannot close this citation without mentioning that delightful children's book "The Adventures of Jimmy Why" and "Six Salmon Rivers and Another" which has been termed Canada's salmon-fish classic.
