Squibb, Wayne

Wayne Squibb, UNB alumnus (BA '68), will receive an honorary doctorate of letters degree in Fredericton on Thursday, May 26. Squibb, a native New Brunswicker, is CEO of Realstar Group, an international real estate company based in Toronto that he co-founded in 1974. Realstar now specializes primarily in owning and operating high-rise rental apartments and hotels in Canada and the UK. Joining UNB's Board of Governors in 1994, Squibb brought his business acumen to the Board's property, finance, executive and nominating & review committees. He served with distinction for 25 years and has played a critical leadership role in the sustainable development and the creation of new master campus plans for the Fredericton and Saint John campuses. He has been a champion of green building and energy management investments, leading efforts to address this significant mind-shift with the university. During Squibb's term as chair of the property committee, he oversaw significant capital projects on both campuses, including new facilities, major renewal projects and strategic retrofits. The committee's decision to lease university land for long term income instead of selling will benefit UNB for generations to come. Squibb has also served on the cabinets of three major fundraising campaigns, created the G. Wayne Squibb scholarship, and has contributed to many other initiatives including the President's Leadership Fund. He was awarded the Alumni Award of Honour in the Spring of 2014.
