Cowperthwaite, William Arthur

Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.)

Orator: Cattley, Robert E.D.

Citation:

ENCAENIA, MAY, 1933
WILLIAM ARTHUR COWPERTHWAITE
to be Doctor of Letters

Most Illustrious President and the whole University I present to you

William Arthur Cowperthwaite

Bachelor of Arts in the University of New Brunswick, Master of Arts in the University of Harvard, that he be admitted to the Degree of Doctor of Literature.

If indeed it were merely on account of a certain Grammar Book which for the undoing of small boys he has produced that he were a candidate for this degree, even so he would be a most worthy recipient thereof. Since however he has set out from that veritable Mesopotamia of Winnipeg in a crazy hand-driven chariot, and, over roads which at this season of the year are slippery with ice and snow, he has navigated hither for the sole purpose of receiving this degree, then I bear witness that in so far as all our statutes require he is a fit and suitable candidate.
