Gillen, Marie Agnes (Sister Marie Angela)
Doctor of Laws (LL.D.)
Citation:
"The greatest consideration is due to a child."
So the poet Juvenal. At this critical hour in history, when part of the world has already fallen in ruins, when very many of mankind, overcome by hunger and bereft of their homes, lie prostrate, we ought to devote especial care to our children and young people that we may truly renew and rebuild our society.
And so it is particularly fitting that we pay honour to her who has consecrated and dedicated her life to the education of children, who has by her teaching and example alike instilled in them the ways of civilization, not cruelty, the arts of peace, not of war. Therefore, Mary Agnes Gillen, Reverend Sister Marie Angela, is invited to take the highest degree which this University can bestow.
