1950 Fredericton Encaenia - Ceremony B
Parry, David Hughes
Doctor of Laws (LL.D.)
Orator: Cattley, Robert E.D.
Citation:
SESQUICENTENNIAL ENCAENIA, 19 MAY 1950
DAVID HUGHES PARRY
to be Doctor of Laws
A Welshman from Wales, pupil of a Welsh school whose name is unpronounceable; graduate of a famous Welsh University College and later of Cambridge; soldier in an even more famous Welsh regiment, Professor Hughes Parry from the first has devoted all his brilliant talent to the study of the Law; in which he has been, among several
intervening appointments, lecturer, reader, professor, practising attorney and finally Director of the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies in the University of London.
He has taken an active interest in student welfare and athletic activities, Rugby football (as befits a rugged Cambrian) being his favourite game.
No finer speaker whatever -- from a nation renowned for its eloquence -- could the University pick to deliver the address of honour this afternoon and none on whom she is prouder to confer the degree of Doctor of Laws.
To his charming wife -- a Welshwoman herself from Wales -- I am empowered, and indeed delighted, to extend the welcome and hospitality of this grateful University.
