CONVOCATION, OCTOBER, 1954
PATRICK KERWIN
to be Doctor of Laws

*Patrick Kerwin, member of Her Majesty's Canadian Privy Council, Chief justice and Deputy Governor General of Canada, is a man of great wisdom, greater modesty and an infinitely courteous and diplomatic spirit. One of our most respected jurists and an acknowledged authority on Constitutional Law, he is rightly and deservedly supreme over what is now the final and Supreme Court of the land. To this august post he brings a fair mind, an even temper
and a faultless reputation for justice without bias or prejudice. Formidable though his titles and weighty his authority, no appellant has ever wanted for an impartial ruling at his hands; and many a young practitioner has cause to bless his Lordship's tolerance and human sympathy.
