Citation:

CONVOCATION, OCTOBER, 1954
GEORGE FREDERICK CURTIS
to be Doctor of Civil Law

*Born in England, George Frederick Curtis graduated in Law from the University of Saskatchewan and went as
Rhodes Scholar to Oxford, where he won double first-class honours.

A Maritimer, and proud of it, by marriage, choice and profession, he was honoured as the first appointee to the
Chair of Law at Dalhousie University established by the Rt. Hon. Viscount Bennett.

Becoming in 1945 Dean of the newly established Law School of the University of British Columbia, he has been in
large measure responsible for its amazing growth and flourishing condition.

In addition, his work for Young People's organizations and for the Government has stamped him as a high legal
authority and a most public-spirited citizen.

*The citation was prepared with the help of Prof. Alec Lucas.
