CONVOCATION, OCTOBER, 1955
ANDREW STEWART
to be Doctor of Laws

A Scot who studied his agriculture in Scotland and practised it in Canada, Andrew Stewart sublimated his experience and applied his brains to the economics of his adoptive province and to the welfare of his second fatherland.

Climbing the academic ladder by the rungs of Political Economy, Commerce and Business Affairs he became President of the University of Alberta in 1950, with services on two great Councils and two Royal Commissions behind him and half a lifetime for such public duties ahead. Of which none has been fraught with more far-reaching
possibilities than that which brings him to our City to-day and enables us to recognize with our highest honour both the man and his work.
