CONVOCATION, OCTOBER, 1955
RAYMOND GUSHUE
to be Doctor of Laws
Grounded and practised in the Law, Raymond Gushue has devoted the past nineteen years and a great organizing and administrative capacity to the fisheries of Newfoundland.
A light such as his could not be hidden under the bushel of one province or even of one country; and he has lent to the United Nations and thereby to a hungering world the powers that so signally and so long have benefited his native province.
If in him we honour the President of Memorial University, in the same man we honour a member of that Royal Commission which has been set up to examine Canada's economic prospects and is presently sitting in Fredericton to begin its assessment of our own provincial resources.
