ARNOLD ABRAHAM GOODMAN
to be Doctor of Civil Law
Arnold Abraham Goodman, M.A., LL.M., senior partner in the firm of Goodman, Derrick and Company, Solicitors, he became in 1965 a Life Peer as Baron Goodman. He received his formal education at University College, London, and Downing College, Cambridge, of which he became an Honorary Fellow in 1968.
For many years a prominent member of the legal profession, he has served since 1966 as a Royal Commissioner on the Working of the Tribunals of Enquiry Act, 1921. A director of various companies, and chairman of the Observer Trust, he became a member of the British Council in 1967.
His chairmanship of the Committee on London Orchestras in 1964, of British Lion Films, Ltd., membership on the Board of the South Bank Theatre since 1968, and above all his incumbency since 1965 of the key post of Chairman of the Arts Council of Great Britain, attest to his absorbing interest in the Arts and the pre-eminent place that he occupies in the cultural life of the United Kingdom.
