ENCAENIA, MAY, 1970
WILLIAM GEORGE SCHNEIDER
to be Doctor of Science

The National Research Council is one of the great institutions of our country that keep Canada abreast of the wonders of science and technology. Today we have as its president one who is determined that Canada will do its full share in the winning of new triumphs. William George Schneider is a Saskatchewan man and a renowned physical chemist, professionally as well known in Britain and the United States as he is at home. The book of which he is co-author, High Resolution Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, is the classic in its field.

For many years the University of New Brunswick has worked in close harmony with the National Research Council and we trust that the appearance of its president here today is a harbinger for the continuance of this happy relationship. Winner of the Henry Marshall Tory Medal of the Royal Society of Canada and of the Chemical Institute of Canada medal, author of 120 papers that have appeared in the leading journals of science, man of many activities and of intense energies, Dr. Schneider has for twenty-five years been an outstanding representative of scholarship in Canada. Though he has received similar honours from many other universities, we hope that he will always regard this visit to our University as an important occasion in his career.
