CONVOCATION, OCTOBER, 1970
M. ADELARD SAVOIE
to be Doctor of Laws

The list of Monsieur Savoie’s achievements is long and varied. His service as member of the New Brunswick Legislative Assembly from Northumberland County in the years 1948 to 1952 and mayor of Dieppe in the following two years bespeak his political talents; his appointments as Queen’s Counsel in 1966 and as legal adviser of La Société Nationale des Acadiens from 1957 to 1967 suggest his continuing interest in the law. But reaching across his entire career, from his early work with the Acadian Association of Education to his present post as President of l’Université de Moncton, has been his passion for education and his love of things Acadian, now happily combined.

A man deeply committed to his community and his province, President Savoie has, since his appointment in 1967, devoted his talents, experience, and boundless energies to charting a vigorous course for our sister university across the province. At a time when the challenges to higher education have never been greater, the university community of New Brunswick is fortunate in having a man of such vision at the helm of one of its principal institution of higher learning.
