Tanzim Bint Abdul Majid has been a force of leadership, compassion and resilience within UNB’s Faculty of Computer Science – leaving behind a legacy of academic excellence and meaningful change. Originally from Bangladesh and born and raised in Dubai, UAE, she moved to Fredericton to pursue her undergraduate degree – bringing with her a global perspective and a deep drive to build community wherever she goes.

A Dean’s List student, Majid balanced academic excellence with community leadership. She is the recipient of multiple scholarships such as the UNB Scholarship for Academic Excellence and, for three years, the annual Edwin Jacob Special University Scholarship.

Her various co-op placements reflect her adaptability and drive to grow – thriving in roles that spanned software development, testing, cloud systems, and agile project management. From expanding critical test suites, building user-facing features, to leading cross-functional teams, she consistently demonstrated her ability to learn quickly and lead effectively in dynamic environments.

Majid’s leadership extended well beyond academics. She served as president of the UNB Computer Science Association (CSA), helping rebuild a strong, inclusive student community post-COVID. As part of her overall role, she led the Executive team, revived traditions, executed impactful events to provide networking opportunities and implemented initiatives to enhance student involvement.

Her dedication to equity and representation was equally evident in her work with Women in Computer Science and Engineering, her mentorship such as a Knuth House Leader, and her participation in the faculty-wide Inclusive Leadership pilot program in partnership with the McKenna Institute and MESH/Diversity.

An advocate for women in STEM and a natural collaborator, she is known for her thoughtfulness, warmth and commitment to creating space for others to thrive.

Tanzim Bint Abdul Majid is graduating with a bachelor of computer science (Honours), and will deliver her valedictory address at UNB Fredericton’s Ceremony D on Thursday, May 29, at 2:30 p.m.
