Valedictory Address

Delivered by: Sophie LeBlanc

Content

Sophie LeBlanc is a natural leader and role model who has embraced UNB’s motto - Sapere aude - Dare to be Wise. She is widely respected within the Faculty of Kinesiology and one professor notes that, “when Sophie speaks, others listen” as she continually brings meaningful discussion to a conversation and raises issues that others may have overlooked.

Leading by example, she has been involved with the Kinesiology Society, worked at the Student Welcome Centre, participated in the National Kin Games, volunteered at a local prosthetics clinic and engaged in national research and advocacy work.

Passionate about sharing her knowledge of prosthetics with others, during LeBlanc’s health care ethics course she inspired and informed her fellow students with an exceptional presentation on the ethical considerations of prosthetics allocation. By engaging the room with intellect and empathy, her fellow classmates learned not only about the subject matter, but also how to approach difficult issues with care and curiosity.

LeBlanc has grown her passion and expertise for advocacy in health care by volunteering as an IMAGINE Research Network Committee member for patient engagement, and through her work as a counsellor at Brigadoon Village Camp, one of the largest pediatric medical camps in Canada.

Sophie LeBlanc is graduating with a bachelor of science in kinesiology, and will deliver her valedictory address in Fredericton on Wednesday, May 28 at 2:30 p.m.
