Valedictory Address
Delivered by: Caitlin Grogan
Caitlin Grogan is intelligent and inquisitive whose time in the Faculty of Law has been defined by excellence, leadership and advocacy.
Early on in her first year of study, Grogan became a standout member of the law school community. She is a Dean’s List student and recipient of multiple scholarships and awards including the Marie La Forest Scholarship, David Covert Scholarship, MacLellan Family Scholarship, Student Union Recognition Award, and the UNB Associated Alumni Student Leadership Award. In addition, she served as a peer mentor, co-president of the Health Law Society, Mental Health Ombudsperson for the Law Students’ Society and was Associate Editor of the UNB Law Journal.
Her passion for service extended across campus through her roles with the UNB Board of Governors, Faculty Council and UNB Student Union. Despite a demanding course load, she consistently showed up for others with humour, compassion and grit.
The Sopinka/McKelvey Cup is a criminal law moot trial that requires students to conduct an opening or closing statement, as well as direct and cross examination of witnesses and victims, played by actors. As a member of the 2024 Competitive Moot Team, Grogan earned top honours for Best Advocate, Best Opening Address and Best Direct Examination. Her coach described her as having a “journalist’s instinct,” always asking the right questions and getting to the heart of the story.
