Valedictory Address
Delivered by: Ogooluwa Christine Ojo Abegunde
Ogooluwa Christine Ojo Abegunde (bachelor of science in psychology) is an outstanding leader, volunteer and active member of the Saint John community who has achieved academic excellence throughout her undergraduate degree.
A 2025 Sir Howard Douglas Scholar, she actively embodies the society's motto, Non Nobis Solum: Not for Ourselves Alone.
A psychology graduate from the Faculty of Science on UNB’s Saint John campus, Ojo Abegunde maintained Dean’s List status throughout her degree. She is known for her thoughtful approach to learning, problem-solving and fostering understanding across diverse perspectives.
A dedicated mentor and educator, Ojo Abegunde has supported first-year students as a chemistry tutor at the Flora Beckett Math & Science Help Centre, where she shared effective study and time management strategies to help them succeed in their academic journeys.
She demonstrated her commitment to community well-being through her work at the YMCA of Saint John, beginning as a registration clerk then moving on to the role of fitness coach, encouraging healthier lifestyles and promoting wellness initiatives.
Ojo Abegunde has further deepened her impact through volunteer research with the Canada East Spine Centre and Horizon Health, where she contributed to clinical studies and obtained multiple certifications in research ethics, medical terminology, and gender-based analysis, helping to advance spine surgery research and program evaluation.
Her passion for community development is also reflected in her work with UNB’s Promise Partnership and the YMCA’s Community Action Network, where she led initiatives to support Saint John’s homeless community and facilitated a fitness event for more than 60 newcomers through the Youth Newcomer Knowledge Series.
