Historian and writer Michael Ignatieff told those graduating from the University of New Brunswick on Thursday to live their own lives and never to give in to their fears.

"Don’t be afraid. Fear is the great enemy of life—the ones we most respect in this country are the fearless ones," Ignatieff said in his convocation address, citing Pierre Elliott Trudeau as an embodiment of the trait.

"Don’t be afraid to fail. Don’t be afraid to succeed. Don’t be afraid to admit when you are wrong, and fight like hell when you are right."
